On the way to Heber on Saturday, Kairi told Pace and Liz that she was going to ride in a helicopter. They told her that probably wouldn't happen, but that would be fun.
On Saturday, about 6:00 pm, a 6"x6"x10' beam fell and hit Kairi on the right side of her head. She fell and hit the ground really hard on the left side of her head. She was taken in the ambulance, and then flew in a helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center.
The CAT scan revealed that there was a lot of bruising on the left side of her brain. As you can imagine, there is a lot of swelling on the right side of her face as well. They planned on doing a surgery to put a catheter in her head to help relieve the pressure, but the surgery didn't work. They ended up putting a gauge in to measure the pressure in her brain. The pressure on her brain was 65, the normal is 15, so they started giving her medication to help the swelling go down. The pressure came down to 40, and then they were able to put the catheter in. After the catheter was placed, the pressure came down to 15. Later that night, it spiked back to 40. They gave her some more medication, and it has stayed at a stable 20-25 ever since.
Another CAT scan revealed that there were two fractures that joined each other, and split her skull into two pieces. This sounds really bad, but is actually good, because it lets her brain swell without putting more pressure on her brain.
She has a hematoma on her right eyelid, where the board hit her. She is in a medically induced coma and paralysis, to help make her comfortable. They are also keeping her body temperature at about 93 degrees, so that her body will focus on healing the brain.
As of today(Monday), everything is pretty much the same. They are just keeping a watch on her. They will probably take her out of the coma tomorrow, but it depends on her condition.
We will post more if there are any changes. Thanks again for all of your love and prayers.
Liz, feel free to edit this, if I got anything wrong.
