So Kairi had a great day up until 3 when we got a float pool nurse. In speech this afternoon they had her pick which color fruit loop she wanted say the color then she could have it. Well Kairi did awesome with that so I just took her back to her room with the rest of the fruit loops because she was still eating them. I started her 4 o'clock feed and then was asking her what color mini m&m she wanted. She picked out the color and ate it. Then she started to gag, then she threw up and because I didn't want to get it all over her and I, I caught in my hands. I thought to myself, nice job it didn't get anywhere. So I was washing it off and turned to say something to Kairi and she starts throwing up more. So needless to say I had a mess to clean up. I got about half cleaned up when all of a sudden I needed to go to the bathroom or else I was going to pee my pants (so tmi I know but it's all part of the story). So I go out to the nurses desk where our nurse is sitting with some other nurses showing them a picture of her kids. I didn't want to interrupt so I waited a minute, she turned and looked at me and then turned back around to finish talking about her picture. So I waited again until she turned and said in a very snotting voice, "can I help you with something?". I told her what had happened and that I really needed to go to the bathroom. Her reply..."Well". I was thinking to myself again "do you want me to pee on the floor so you can clean up that mess too?", but I didn't. I said "she needs a new draw sheet". Her comment in the snotting voice again..."well I guess I will have to that for you". I then went to the bathroom, and by the time I got back the nurse was just barely kneeling down on the mat in front of Kairi's bed to start changing it. She lifted up the draw she and said in the voice, "she needs a new fitted sheet too". So she went to get that. When she got back I was cleaning Kairi's splints and shoes and she asked me about how much came back up? I told her about 1/2. She said in the voice "are you serious?" I said "yeah I caught about a 1/4 of it in my hands." She said "oh, that is disgusting".
Needless to say I was not very thrilled with this nurse. In fact from now on float pool nurses are no longer allowed to be Kairi's nurse.
It just baffles me that some of these nurses are not very good. And then there are others that are absolutely amazing.
Anyway sorry to be so long winded but I needed to vent about that nurse.
I asked Kairi what she wanted to for dinner, I gave her a few options and she told me chicken nuggets, then I asked her what she wanted with them. She said french fries. I am so glad that she is starting to initiate her answers more instead of us having to give her cues.
When her dinner came Kairi did awesome. She even drank milk from sippy cup!!!!! I was so excited.
Thank you all for your support and love!
Love,
Liz & Kairi
P.S. Brooklyn Bailey is a 2 month old baby that was in the bed next to Kairi for awhile when she was in the PICU.

Yuck...I hate snooty nurses. I have had a few like that. It's bad enough to have one as an adult. I couldn't imagine having a bad nurse for my child. I'm amazed at your self control. I would have taught her a few words I learned from a sailor!
By the way, I heard there is a really good nurse in town here. She works at VVES. ;)
